FIRST® volunteers are part of a global robotics community that helps prepare young people for the future. FIRST competitions and events rely on volunteers—including corporate sponsor employees, teachers, parents, community leaders, service organizations and others—to create meaningful student experiences. Whether helping for a few hours or throughout the season, every volunteer contributes to students’ growth and success. For this FIRST Tech Challenge event, we are especially seeking adult volunteers to serve as Judges. Judges recognize team achievements by interviewing and observing teams, evaluating them against official award criteria, and working with other Judges to select award recipients. In panels, Judges serve as role models and mentors, offer constructive feedback, and uphold fairness, equity, and the FIRST Core Values. They engage with teams in judging rooms, pits, and fields, and may also help write award scripts and support award presentations. This role is a great fit for adults who enjoy working with youth, value teamwork, and bring strong communication, critical thinking, and assessment skills.
Judging is a rewarding way to connect with teams, celebrate their accomplishments, and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
