Ages 12-18; Grades 7-12
FIRST® Tech Challenge
In FIRST® Tech Challenge, students work with mentors to design, build, and code robots for an exciting game released each September. Through competition and outreach, they strengthen STEM skills, practice engineering design, and build confidence.
Teams of students in grades 7–12 are challenged to design, build, program, and operate their robots in head-to-head matches using an alliance format.
With support from adult coaches and mentors, students apply engineering principles and learn the value of teamwork, persistence, and innovation.
The reusable robot kit can be programmed in Java-based languages at multiple skill levels. Teams build their robots, fundraise, market their team brand, and complete outreach to earn awards. Participants can apply for tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.
